I Spy Half Swap: Sewing & Notions

THIS SWAP IS FULL!
(feel free to fill out the form below to be an
alternate or be notified of future swaps)

(I’m also hosting an Ann Kelle themed I Spy half swap now!)

Basics:
  • This is a “half” swap
  • There will be 24 spots
  • Choose any Sewing/Notions themed novelty cotton fabric
  • Cut ½ yd of fabric into 24 five inch charms and mail to me
  • Once swapped, you will have a fun sewing themed charm pack

Details:

So I love making I Spy things for my kids:

Matching Game

I Spy Quilt

BUT sometimes I admit to hoarding saving adorable novelty prints for myself or for making gifts for sewing/quilty friends. So I thought it’d be fun to do a sewing and notion themed swap.  Fabrics like, sewing machines, spools, seam rippers, rulers, pin cushions, pins, scissors, etc.

You will need to purchase a half yard of fabric (**more for large scale prints; please check the size/scale before finalizing an online order).

PLEASE FUSSY CUT; it’s disappointing to receive charms that aren’t useable. Give what you’d like to receive.

Fabric should be ironed before cutting.  Here's a great tutorial on how to cut fabric into charms by Elizabeth Hartman.

Once everything is cut and ready, place fabric in a ziptop bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name and Flickr ID.

In your envelope please include a PREPAID SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE for me to mail your charms back to you! This is very important! (Flat Rate Envelopes are $5.60)

**International swappers can order their fabric online and have it shipped directly to me.  I will iron and cut your charms and return any extra fabric with your swapped charms.  Return shipping/packaging will be paid via Paypal.

After signing up for the swap, upload a picture of your chosen fabric(s) to the I Spy Flickr Group.  The Flickr group is where I’ll be keeping everyone updated on when fabrics are received and sent.  It is also a fun place to share project ideas.

Just a tip...I like supporting local quilt shops when I can.  But my favorite online shops are Fabric.com, Etsy, and Fat Quarter Shop.  At Fabric.com you can find fabric easily by typing in the color you're searching.  Then narrow down the results by clicking "quilting fabric" and then "novelty & conversational quilt fabrics".

Deadline:

The date to have your charms to me is July 23rd. This time frame is short, but should allow everyone sufficient time to purchase, cut, and mail packages.  Serious swappers only!  ; ) I will email everyone my mailing address once the spots are all filled.

Each participant may sign up for a maximum of 2 spots.  There are 24 spots total.  Please fill out the form at the bottom to sign up!

I Spy Half Swap: Ann Kelle

THIS SWAP IS FULL!
(feel free to fill out the form below to be an
alternate or be notified of future swaps)

(I’m also hosting a Sewing/Notions themed half swap now!)

Basics:
  • This is a “half” swap
  • There will be 24 spots
  • Choose any Ann Kelle (Robert Kaufman) novelty cotton fabric
  • Cut ½ yd of fabric into 24 five inch charms and mail to me
  • **(If fabric is large scale, you may need a full yard for fussy cutting)
  • Once swapped, you will have a lovely Ann Kelle I Spy Charm Pack

Details:
Ever since I first caught the “I-Spy Bug” I’ve been drawn to Ann Kelle’s bright and whimsical designs.  She does a wide variety of novelty prints that are perfect for I Spy projects.  I thought it’d be fun to do a themed swap around her fabrics and see what we all come up with.

You will need to purchase a half yard of fabric (**more for large scale prints; please check the size/scale before finalizing an online order). Many Ann Kelle fabrics are "large-ish scaled", though she does have several “mini” scaled prints.

PLEASE FUSSY CUT; it’s disappointing to receive charms that aren’t useable. Give what you’d like to receive.

(ex: the one on the right will show only partial body parts as the ¼” seam allowance reduces what the finished charm looks like)

Fabric should be ironed before cutting.  Here's a great tutorial on how to cut fabric into charms by Elizabeth Hartman.

I Spy Rainbow Half Swap (9/9 FULL)

9/9/14: This Swap is Now Full! please fill out the form below to be an alternate or notified of future swaps.  (There are still a few spots in the ABC Swap)
************************************************** I'm currently hosting an ABC I-Spy Swap right now, but I decided to do this half swap at the same time for extra I-Spy fun!

Basics:

    This is a “half” swap
    There will be 24 spots
There will be 8 color options to pick from (yellow, orange, red, purple, pink, blue, green, and white) And 3 spots in each color group  (8x3=24) ; )
Cut ½ yd of fabric into 24 five inch charms and mail to me
Once swapped, you will have an adorable rainbow charm pack

Details:

Fabric needs to be designer label, 100% cotton, quilt shop quality fabric. (No Hancock, Hobby Lobby, Joann fabrics, etc) Please do not choose licensed prints i.e.: Dora, Barbie, Sports Teams, etc. Fabrics need to be kid friendly/recognizable.

Select which color fabric you’d like to do (yellow, orange, red, purple, pink, blue, green, and white).  Make sure you’re chosen color is the predominant/background color in the fabric.  Food, people, objects, and animals are all fine for this swap.  With that said (I don’t want to offend anyone, because I know there are a variety of tastes out there) I was hoping for more “modern/current” fabrics.

You will need to purchase a half yard of fabric (more for large scale prints; please check the size/scale before finalizing an online order). It’s important to include a complete object in every charm (keeping in mind ¼ inch seam allowance).

Example…

Fabric needs to be new, unwashed, and pressed before cutting.  Here's a great tutorial on how to cut fabric into charms by Elizabeth Hartman.

Once everything is cut and ready, place fabric in a ziptop bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name, Flickr ID, and letter of the color that you chose.

Please include the manufacturer/designer so people can find it if they really like it. ; ) The Flickr group is where I’ll be keeping everyone updated on when fabrics are received and sent.  It is also a fun place to share project ideas.
