I Spy Japanese “Half Swap”

5/4 UPDATE: This swap is now full.

If you would like to be an alternate or notified of future
swaps, please fill out the form below.  Thanks!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PLEASE READ THE FULL POST SO YOU DON'T MISS IMPORTANT DETAILS!
I’ve wanted to participate in a Japanese Charm Swap for a while, but I never seem to find one before it’s full!  I mean check out the cuteness of these fabrics:
So I decided to take the plunge and host a “half” swap to start with.
The Basics:
  • Japanese novelty fabrics suitable for a kids quilt
  • Fabric needs to be cotton/quilt weight (not heavy/thick weight)
  • ½ yard cut into 5” charms = 24 charms
  • Mail them in and get back an adorable charm pack
Details:
Please visist the Flickr Group first to see which fabrics have already been chosen.
Japanese fabrics are a little harder to come by and are more expensive than other designer novelty fabrics.  But I’m very excited to be partnering with the Fabricsupply shop from Etsy.com.  They have a large selection of adorable Japanese prints!  The owner has graciously extended a 15% discount code to those participating in this swap!  Just use the code HAHM15 and receive 15% off your purchase. This discount is good May 3rd-May 19th.
If you choose to order from Fabricsupply’s shop, then I will give you the option of shipping your fabric directly to me!  Ang (from fabricsupply) or I will iron and cut your charms for you.  After the swap is complete we can settle up on return shipping via Paypal (or combine shipping with the other swap I’m hosting as applicable).
Most Japanese novelty prints are small scale.  But take size into consideration and buy extra if your fabric will require fussy cutting.
Upload a picture of your chosen fabric to the Flickr Group.  Please specify that it is for the Japanese swap and include the designer/collection in the photo description.  If you don’t have a Flickr account, it’s free to sign up.  This is where I’ll be posting when I have received packages, share project ideas, and give periodic updates.
If you plan to cut your charms, here’s a helpful tutorial by Elizabeth Hartman.
If you are shipping from your home, please place fabric in a zip top bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name and Flickr ID. As well as a PREPAID SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE for return shipping.
Tentative Deadline to receive your packages is June 1st, the same as the other swap I’m hosting.  But we will have to see how quickly the swap fills up.  I'll email everyone my mailing address once the swap is full.
There will be a total of 24 spots for this swap.  You can sign up for a maximum of 2 spots.  Please fill out the form below to sign up. (5/4 Swap if FULL)  *International participants are welcome.
I Spy Swap 4
5/2/14 Update: This Swap is now FULL.
To be an alternate or to be notified of the next swap, please fill out the form below.
Check out the Japanese Half Swap that's going on too!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well it's been a couple of months since our last I Spy Swap.  Here are a few pictures of our lovely rainbow charm packs.

Now if you're ready lets get swapping again!  Here's the basics:
  • 56 spots available
  • Buy 1 yard of "I Spy" novelty fabric
  • Cut into 56 5" charms and mail to me
  • Do a happy dance when you get back your fun charm pack

Now the IMPORTANT details:

  • Visit the Flickr Group to see which fabrics have already been chosen, to avoid repetitive subject matter.

  • You will need to purchase one yard of fabric (more if selecting a larger scale print).  Larger scale prints will need to be fussy cut so everyone has a complete object that is centered.  (Remember seam allowances)

  • Fabric that has a small scale print is best.  It needs to be easily identified by a child. (Please be courteous and precise in your cutting; “sloppy” squares will be returned unswapped)

  • Fabric must be designer label, 100% cotton, quilt shop quality fabric. (No Hancocks, Hobby Lobby, Joann fabrics, etc) Also please do not choose licensed prints i.e.: Dora, Barbie, Sports Teams, etc.  Fabric must be new and unwashed and must come from a smoke free environment.

Here are some great “I Spy-worthy” fabrics:

I Spy Swap #3; "Rainbow/Color Swap"

1/15/14 THIS SWAP IS FULL.  If you'd like to be an alternate or receive notification about future swaps, please fill out the form at the bottom of the post.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A very happy New Year to everyone!  I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed time with friends and family.  We had a great (although cold) time in Illinois visiting family.  The kids got spoiled as usual, since they are the only grandkids on by sides of our families so far.  We enjoyed playing lots of boardgames and I also got a SLR camera that I'm excited about!  Here's a photo from our Christmas photo shoot:
OK, back to the REAL reason you're here!  It's time for another I-Spy Swap!
Here's the basics:
  • There will be 56 spots available (each participant can sign-up for up to 2 spots)
  • Choose a children's novelty fabric that fits into one of the following colors (yellow, orange, red, pink, blue/aqua, green, black, and white)
  • Cut fabric into 5" charms and mail the 56 squares to me; once everything is collected, you'll get back a lovely rainbow I-Spy charm pack!
Details:
Fabric needs to be designer label, 100% cotton, quilt shop quality fabric. (No Hancock, Hobby Lobby, Joann fabrics, etc) Please do not choose licensed prints i.e.: Dora, Barbie, Sports Teams, etc.  We had such great fabrics last swap, I've decided to continue with the no animal "policy".  (Nothing against animals of course!) Let's see what creative objects, food, and people, etc everyone can find!
You will need to purchase one yard of fabric (more if selecting a larger scale print).  Larger scale prints will need to be fussy cut so everyone has a complete object that is centered.  (Remember seam allowances)
Fabric that has a small scale print is best.  It needs to be easily identified by a child. (Please be courteous and precise in your cutting; “sloppy” squares will be returned unswapped)
There will be 6-7 spots for each color. Once you've signed up for your color/(s), choose a fabric accordingly.  The color you chose needs to be the prominent color and/or background color.  Here's an example and non-example for yellow:
Yellow is clearly the predominate color here and the object isn't so busy that it detracts from the background color.
A cute print; but it's difficult to determine what the "main" color is here; the red pops very nicely, but detracts from the yellow background.
Fabric needs to be new, unwashed, and pressed before cutting.  Here's a great tutorial on how to cut fabric into charms by Elizabeth Hartman.
Once everything is cut and ready, place fabric in a ziptop bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name, Flickr ID, and color that you chose. This will help prevent repetitive subject matter.
In your envelope please include: the 56 charms in a ziptop; the index card; and a PREPAID SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE for me to mail your charms back to you! This is very important! If you do not send a SASE with your charms, I won't be able to mail them back to you. That would be such a bummer! (Flat Rate Envelopes are $5.60)
*International swappers will correspond with me to arrange packaging/shipping and can pay via PayPal.
Finally, upload a picture of your chosen fabric to the I Spy Flickr Group. Please include info about your fabric (designer/name) in the photo description so others can purchase more if they really like it! The Flickr group is where updated information will be posted and is a fun place to share project ideas.
Deadline: Date to have your charms to me is February 7th. This should allow everyone sufficient time to purchase, cut, and mail packages.  Serious swappers only!  ; ) I will email everyone my mailing address once the spots are all filled.
This swap has 54 openings remaining (56 total including my 2 spots). This swap is open to international participants.  Each participant can sign up for a maximum of two spots.
Sign-up below; if you want two spots, please submit the form twice!  Once a color group fills up, it will be removed from the list below.  1/15/14 SWAP IS FULL
I Spy Swap #2 Wrap Up
The ABC I Spy Swap is all over with now.  It was a great success thanks to all the wonderful participants!  Check out these "charm packs" ready for shipping:
My next swap won't be until January.  I decided to wait until the Holidays are over...I really enjoy savoring the family traditions and time spent with loved ones.  Plus my kids are little, so I want to take in every second of wonder on their sweet faces.
The theme for the next swap will be an I-Spy Color Swap.  There will be more details to come once the swap is active, but there will be 9 colors (yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue/aqua, green, black, white) with 6-7 slots for each color group.  Participants may choose up to two spots and internationals are welcome to join.
If you haven't done one of my previous swaps or left a comment with your email address on another post, feel free to submit your email address below.  I will notify you when the next swap opens up (it doesn't guarantee a spot).
****UPDATE JANUARY 2014**** New Swap has opened up; please see this post to sign up:
