I Spy Rainbow Half Swap (9/9 FULL)

9/9/14: This Swap is Now Full! please fill out the form below to be an alternate or notified of future swaps.  (There are still a few spots in the ABC Swap)
************************************************** I'm currently hosting an ABC I-Spy Swap right now, but I decided to do this half swap at the same time for extra I-Spy fun!

Basics:

    This is a “half” swap
    There will be 24 spots
   There will be 8 color options to pick from (yellow, orange, red, purple, pink, blue, green, and white) And 3 spots in each color group  (8x3=24) ; )
    Cut ½ yd of fabric into 24 five inch charms and mail to me
    Once swapped, you will have an adorable rainbow charm pack

Details:

Fabric needs to be designer label, 100% cotton, quilt shop quality fabric. (No Hancock, Hobby Lobby, Joann fabrics, etc) Please do not choose licensed prints i.e.: Dora, Barbie, Sports Teams, etc. Fabrics need to be kid friendly/recognizable.

Select which color fabric you’d like to do (yellow, orange, red, purple, pink, blue, green, and white).  Make sure you’re chosen color is the predominant/background color in the fabric.  Food, people, objects, and animals are all fine for this swap.  With that said (I don’t want to offend anyone, because I know there are a variety of tastes out there) I was hoping for more “modern/current” fabrics.

You will need to purchase a half yard of fabric (more for large scale prints; please check the size/scale before finalizing an online order). It’s important to include a complete object in every charm (keeping in mind ¼ inch seam allowance).

Example…

Fabric needs to be new, unwashed, and pressed before cutting.  Here's a great tutorial on how to cut fabric into charms by Elizabeth Hartman.

Once everything is cut and ready, place fabric in a ziptop bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name, Flickr ID, and letter of the color that you chose.

In your envelope please include a PREPAID SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE for me to mail your charms back to you! This is very important! (Flat Rate Envelopes are $5.60)

**International swappers can order their fabric online and have it shipped directly to me.  I will iron and cut your charms and return any extra fabric with your swapped charms.  Return shipping/packaging will be paid via Paypal.

After signing up for the swap, upload a picture of your chosen fabric(s) to the I Spy Flickr Group.  Please include the manufacturer/designer so people can find it if they really like it. ; ) The Flickr group is where I’ll be keeping everyone updated on when fabrics are received and sent.  It is also a fun place to share project ideas.

Just a tip...I like supporting local quilt shops when I can.  But my favorite online shops are Fabric.com, Etsy, and Fat Quarter Shop.  At Fabric.com you can find fabric easily by typing in the color you're searching.  Then narrow down the results by clicking "quilting fabric" and then "novelty & conversational quilt fabrics".

Deadline:

The date to have your charms to me is October 9th. This time frame is short, but should allow everyone sufficient time to purchase, cut, and mail packages.  Serious swappers only!  ; ) I will email everyone my mailing address once the spots are all filled.

There are will be 8 colors to choose from (yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, and white) and 3 spots for each color.  Each participant may sign up for a maximum of 2 spots.  There are 24 spots total.

Here are some inspirational ideas!

ABC I-Spy Swap 5

**9/11 THIS SWAP IS NOW FULL!  Please fill out the form below to be an alternate or notified of future swaps.  ; )

I did an alphabet swap in the past and it was a lot of fun.  So I’ve decided to do it again, only the specifics are a little different this time, so buckle up and read carefully!

Basics:

    This will be a “double swap”; so there will be two groups.
    There will be 52 total spots;  26 for Group A and 26 for Group B.
    Each person will choose a letter of the alphabet and buy 1 yd of fabric that corresponds with that letter.
    The fabric will be cut into 52 five inch charms and mailed to me.
    Once everything is collected I will sort out the charms and each participant will get back two of each alphabet letter for the Group that they signed up for. (totaling 52 charms)

Details:

Fabric needs to be designer label, 100% cotton, quilt shop quality fabric. (No Hancock, Hobby Lobby, Joann fabrics, etc) Please do not choose licensed prints i.e.: Dora, Barbie, Sports Teams, etc. Fabrics need to be kid friendly/recognizable.

As in the past, I’d like to limit the animal charms to tricky letters like Q, U, Y, Z. But I also listed a few obscure animals that would be fun to see chosen (marked with an “*” below). I think it’ll be great to see what types of foods, objects, and people fabrics everyone chooses!  If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

You will need to purchase one yard of fabric (more for large scale prints; please check the size/scale before finalizing an online order). It’s important to include a complete object in every charm (keeping in mind ¼ inch seam allowance).

Example...

Please be considerate of everyone and don’t be “that person”.  Sloppy squares will be returned unswapped.

Make sure to choose a fabric that clearly identifies your letter; for example:

Once everything is cut and ready, place fabric in a ziptop bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name, Flickr ID, and letter of the alphabet that you chose.

In your envelope please include a PREPAID SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE for me to mail your charms back to you! This is very important! (Flat Rate Envelopes are $5.60)

**International swappers and those who choose to order from Spoonflower, can order their fabric online and have it shipped directly to me.

This time frame is short, but should allow everyone sufficient time to purchase, cut, and mail packages.  Serious swappers only!  ; ) I will email everyone my mailing address once the spots are all filled. (Spoonflower orders should to be placed ASAP, to arrive to me in time)

Each participant can choose to sign up for either Group A or B.  Or you may sign up for one spot in each Group.  The maximum is one spot per group.  (Remember you’re already getting two of each alphabet letter.) If you decide to sign up for the letter “D” in both groups, make sure they are different “D” fabrics.

Well this was a LONG post.  Let me wrap it up with some ideas you can use to make your fabric selection quick and easy. (Yes, I listed a lot of foods...I’m pregnant, what can I say?)

S: sewing machine, swimmer, shrimp, sleeping bag, stamps
T:
taco, toaster, tomatoes, thermos, tennis racket
U:
umbrella, UFO, unicorn*, underwear (kid friendly please)
V:
van, video game, volcano
W:
waffle, wheel barrel, window, wagon, watering can
X:  x-ray, XO (tic-tac-toe)
xylophone
Y:
yo yo, yarn, yogi/yoga, yak*, yacht
Z:
zipper, zebra*, zucchini

Please fill in the form below to join the swap.  There are a total of 52 spots!  Happy Swapping! (I'm also doing a Rainbow I Spy Half Swap, if you "need" some more swapping!) Please check the Flickr Group to see which letters are still free!  Swap is Full! 9/11

I Spy Japanese “Half Swap”

5/4 UPDATE: This swap is now full.

If you would like to be an alternate or notified of future
swaps, please fill out the form below.  Thanks!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PLEASE READ THE FULL POST SO YOU DON'T MISS IMPORTANT DETAILS!
I’ve wanted to participate in a Japanese Charm Swap for a while, but I never seem to find one before it’s full!  I mean check out the cuteness of these fabrics:
So I decided to take the plunge and host a “half” swap to start with.
The Basics:
  • Japanese novelty fabrics suitable for a kids quilt
  • Fabric needs to be cotton/quilt weight (not heavy/thick weight)
  • ½ yard cut into 5” charms = 24 charms
  • Mail them in and get back an adorable charm pack
Details:
Please visist the Flickr Group first to see which fabrics have already been chosen.
Japanese fabrics are a little harder to come by and are more expensive than other designer novelty fabrics.  But I’m very excited to be partnering with the Fabricsupply shop from Etsy.com.  They have a large selection of adorable Japanese prints!  The owner has graciously extended a 15% discount code to those participating in this swap!  Just use the code HAHM15 and receive 15% off your purchase. This discount is good May 3rd-May 19th.
If you choose to order from Fabricsupply’s shop, then I will give you the option of shipping your fabric directly to me!  Ang (from fabricsupply) or I will iron and cut your charms for you.  After the swap is complete we can settle up on return shipping via Paypal (or combine shipping with the other swap I’m hosting as applicable).
Most Japanese novelty prints are small scale.  But take size into consideration and buy extra if your fabric will require fussy cutting.
Upload a picture of your chosen fabric to the Flickr Group.  Please specify that it is for the Japanese swap and include the designer/collection in the photo description.  If you don’t have a Flickr account, it’s free to sign up.  This is where I’ll be posting when I have received packages, share project ideas, and give periodic updates.
If you plan to cut your charms, here’s a helpful tutorial by Elizabeth Hartman.
If you are shipping from your home, please place fabric in a zip top bag and include an index card (or piece of paper) with your name and Flickr ID. As well as a PREPAID SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE for return shipping.
Tentative Deadline to receive your packages is June 1st, the same as the other swap I’m hosting.  But we will have to see how quickly the swap fills up.  I'll email everyone my mailing address once the swap is full.
There will be a total of 24 spots for this swap.  You can sign up for a maximum of 2 spots.  Please fill out the form below to sign up. (5/4 Swap if FULL)  *International participants are welcome.
